Claire Palmer
Claire Palmer is a songwriter and poet who seeks to combine imagist and dada techniques within their work, drawing inspiration from nature, childhood, and synthesizing the distant past with contemporary themes. They were published in Venture in 2024 for their piece entitled I did so many drugs in so many parking lots, and have since released a song on all platforms called 4th of July. They hope to continue writing in multiple mediums as a means to connect with their community, contribute to a larger conversation, and respond to an ever changing world.
The sun did not disappear –
The slit squint dimming.
There was no premonition of the end of days,
Just dust circling, settling restless.
We were in the kitchen,
Nicking fingers on freshly sharpened somethings,
Simmering on low.
Chicken portraits cock eyed,
Not quite straightened.
The noiseless flash.
Fine china demolition rat-tat-rattles,
Shaking her figurines
And flipping a finger
At the sweeping shock
Wave, crashing –
Waxing and waning.
First quarter not encompassed, daystar snuffed.
Battle on middle earth,
man made stuff,
And nature shunned.
