Writing A Blog for Dummies…

Hello…

Please forgive the title! The first thing I will teach you in this blog post is that an eye-catching title goes a long way.

The next thing you will need is a hook. I find a standard question does the job well enough, though a statistic or something in that vein will serve you well.

Imagine that I wanted to write about the fantastic array of horror movies that were the center of conversation (my conversation, anyways) this summer. (The films being Obsession (2025), Backrooms (2026), and Buddy (2026).) My title might be something like: Good (read: Scary) things come in Threes… or Horror Movie Summer of ’26!

My hook would be:

Do you like being scared?

I don’t.

Of course, before this, I would need to have a point. Am I looking to persuade a non-horror-enjoyer into watching the films? Am I analyzing and comparing the different themes/intentions of the films and praising what they succeeded in doing? Am I criticizing the film’s shortcomings?

Everything I do next depends on that! If I want to convince more people to give those films a chance then I’d avoid major spoilers and focus on giving a rough explanation on what kind of horror/scary aspects they can expect to see on the screen, and assure them that it plays a very impactful part towards the message or plot!

If I wanted to praise the film or criticize it (or, best: both!) then I’d make sure to warn my reader of spoilers near the very beginning, perhaps I’d encourage them to watch the films first and return to read my thoughts.

As you can see, having a point goes a long way. It will help you structure your blog post, and it will be very helpful to you when you are deciding what should be included in your post. After all, a blog post here should really be 200-500 words!

Speaking of… I’m really reaching my limit.

I look forward to reading the scintillating thoughts of my peers!
