Summer 2024

Greetings friends of Venture Magazine! We hope you had a great summer! As the staff of Venture begins the 2024-25 academic school year, we decided to ask them what they did this summer, what they were listening to, and what they read. Here’s what a few staff members had to say:

Editor-in-Chief: Maura Corman (she/her)

Maura has been enjoying her summer break by spending a lot of time with friends and family and catching up on her reading. In preparation for a creative project about American suburbs Maura has been reading books relating to the topic, including The Town of Babylon and Revolutionary Road. Beyond that project, Maura’s beach reads have been Delilah Green Doesn’t Care and The Body Keeps the Score. Like many others, Maura has also spent her summer listening to Chappell Roan, Charli xcx, and Billie Ellish. On top of that she’s been playing all her favorite songs by the bands MUNA and Destroy Boys.

Web Editor: Ashley Morales (she/they)

Ashley spent this summer working at a local bakery, going to film festivals, and making a short film. It has been a pretty jam packed summer and she is excited to finish her last semester at Rider. This summer they read two graphic novels: The Impending Blindness of Billy Scott by Zoe Thurgood and Eight Billion Genies by Charles Soule and Ryan Browne. Ashley has also recently gotten into the band Oasis.

Staff Editor: Adrianna Jaccoma (she/her)

This summer, Adrianna worked as a camp counselor at a local summer camp! She spent many days playing four square with my campers, swimming in the pool with them, and playing a lot of Uno. When she wasn’t working at camp, you could find her at dance, reading by the pool, and spending time with friends and family.

Staff Editor: Talia Hincks (she/her)

Captain on Deck! Talia Hincks spent her summer working as a “captain” at a banquet hall in Connecticut, where she has worked over 250 weddings since 2021. When she wasn’t clocked in, she hiked, swum, saw old and new friends, and of course: read. Talia’s favorite book of the summer was Babel, by R.F. Kuang.

Staff Editor: Anthony Cammarano (he/him)

Over the summer Anthony was mostly chilling while going to various places such as Vermont and Long Beach Island. In the background would be the band he got really into this summer, Ice Nine Kills, with their ‘Silver Scream’ and ‘Welcome To Horrorwood: The Silver Scream 2’ albums, all based/inspired by various pieces of horror media. His favorite songs are ‘Rocking The Boat’, ‘Shower Scene’, and ‘Rainy Day’, though my favorites change weekly. He also has been keeping up with WWE this summer, watching their various shows and PLEs (Premium Live Events).

Staff Editor: Michaela Smith (she/her)

Over the summer, Michaela went on vacation to Cape May, New Jersey. In addition, she completed a ten week marketing internship with Adapex, an ad tech company. She has been writing poetry in her spare time and reading I Would Leave Me If I Could by Halsey.

Staff Editor: Klaudine Bessasparis (she/her)

Klaudine spent this summer being a Program Manager at the summer camp she grew up going to. It was eight weeks of running the zipline, doing crafts with campers, swimming in the pool, coming up with fun games to play, and overall being her silly self with a bunch of goofy kids. When she wasn’t at camp, she was discovering new favorite books and spending time with her family.

Staff Editor: Michael Keahon (he/him)

Over the summer, when Michael wasn’t picking up extra shifts at his job, he’d kick waves at the beach and sleep on his side to recover from the imminent sunburn. In between all that, he scavenged for new stories ideas to write and hopped between a number of books. He promised his friends that he’d start reading their recommendations, some of which were American Gods by Neil Gaiman, White Tears by Hari Kunzru, All About Love by Bell Hooks, and Reunion by Kayla Olsen.

Additionally, we would like to congratulate the 2024 Venture graduates for their help in restructuring and reviving Rider University’s Online Literary Journal. We wish them nothing but the best in their future endeavors.Additionally, we would like to congratulate the 2024 Venture graduates for their help in restructuring and reviving Rider University’s Online Literary Journal.
